MAY 2010

Walls of Remedy

White, sterile walls and ceilings exemplify the traditional hospital setting. Examining rooms, waiting rooms, corridors - areas where health professionals and other caregivers work, where families and patients wait - are too often colorless, lifeless, and certainly not inviting.

Research has shown that psychologically appropriate art substantially affects such patient outcomes as high blood pressure, anxiety, intake of pain medication, and length of hospital stay.

For these reasons, and many more, Hanfaninha invites you to take part in ‘Walls of Remedy’, a one-day event that brings together volunteers to collaborate in creating art to be donated to hospitals in Cairo.

Artists will be paired with participating volunteers to produce colorful, soothing and comforting artwork to help soften the stressful hospital experience.

Stemming from our belief in the importance of visual therapy, we wish to improve the environment of our hospitals for patients, staff and visitors alike.

If improving the quality of health care in Egyptian hospitals is the role of the government, ours is to enhance the surrounding environment for its patients.

Don’t miss the live music from Bad Tambourine and Like Jelly,
cupcakes from Monz mini pleasures and Home Baking 1
and activities featured on the day.
Artistic talent is not a prerequisite, so just show up and help us reach our goal.

*Donations of all kinds are also welcome.

Support you can provide:
- Volunteer to create some art!
- Artistic materials: brushes, canvases, paper,
crayons, paint… anything you could think of.

- Money makes the world go round.
- Publicize with us for a greater turn out.

We hope you join us on Saturday the
 29th of May, 2010 from 7:00. - 11:00 pm

JANUARY 2010

Hanfaninha Studio Gallery invites you to its one year anniversary
on the 16th of January 2010
as a large group exhibition celebrating Cairo's arts and artists.

"شارع قصر النيل"
"Qasr El Nil Street"

For our anniversary, we wanted to make this exhibition about something that we can all relate to, something that's been there year after year; something that almost certainly has inspired many artists and many art forms. After a long thought process we decided that downtown Cairo was an area of great substance, a place worthy of recognition. We've all walked through these streets hundreds, if not thousands of times. And for that reason, we have decided to make this exhibition about Qasr El Nil Street, the most famous, over-crowded street of our beautiful Cairo. In this street we found all sorts of people, places, traditions and landmarks. And through this exhibition we hope to pay homage to this street and its very own character. Through this exhibition we aim to find new and different ways of expressing and investigating this concept.

May Heggy's latest Jewelery collection:
"Turkish Delights"

"Turkish Delights, her new collection is inspired by the concept of fantasy and the inner world of dreams. The collection has a sense of drama and mysteriousness with a modern approach. And like all her previous collections, she aims to portray the dualistic nature of life; by mixing precious and non-precious materials, using contrasting colors, shapes and textures.

The Designs were strongly influenced by Iznik art (iznik pottery as well as designs on the walls of the mosques) that for her, portray beautifully the different elements of nature. In her world of "fantasy", people are not distanced from their rights as human beings and their rights to be in touch with nature. She designed this collection to show and cherish the beauty of nature.

In addition, the exhibition will also be displaying:

Decorative Art by Maya El Kassawanie

FEBRUARY 2009

You are cordially invited to Hanfaninha Gallery's second Art exhibition, showcasing the talented works of Amina El Demirdash and eclectic jewellery created by Fouad Sadek.

Demirdash's work is a mix of abstract and surreal figures and faces created in a life of fast brush strokes and heavily textured oil paints. Her landscapes just like her portraits are all drenched in the noise of a busy bustling city that echoes in her work.

Much like Sadek's jewellery whos use of earthly stones is contrasted by the brightness of the glittering silver. His pieces are alluring yet filled with charm. A mix of contemporary and oriental is the ingredient to his treasured creations.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday the 21st of February, 2009. From 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The exhibition will conclude on Monday the 2nd of March,2009.

Hanfaninha Gallery is open daily from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm. And closed on Fridays.
